Landings

This series was an adventure for me and outside of my normal comfort zone. It was a commission piece for Smith Stuart Interiors, an Atlanta-based interior design firm where I was working part-time at the time. The client was The Scheduling Institute, whose offices were located near the Atlanta Jackson International Airport. The idea was to show the finished pieces as if they were enlarged contact sheets, which meant I needed many photos with variations. I spent half a day on my back in an abandoned lot about a quarter mile from the domestic terminal, capturing inbound planes as they landed, before moving to the top of a parking garage at the international terminals to capture the outbound planes. The end result was two 60” x 60” framed pieces that became the focal point of their executive conference room. Some of my favorite images are shown here, and the final pieces installed are below.
