Sometimes, as an artist, you visualize your emotions and thoughts before your body can comprehend what is going on. I remember making these images lying on my back in the middle of winter, forgetting how cold the ground was on my skin. The shapes and movement of the bare branches above me entranced me. I would close my eyes and see them dancing closely, almost hauntingly, as if from a childhood nightmare. It was all I could see for months, and I almost felt as if they were enveloping me in some unknown darkness. A few months later, I learned I was suffering from depression. These images were created to help illustrate how I felt and saw things during this time, as well as to help my mind cope with whatever darkness had decided to take over.
